Welcome to the Brush Type 4 Fund website.

The Brush Type 4 Fund was formed in the early 1990s with the intention of preserving a series parallel Class 47.

This was achieved in January 1994 when 47105 was purchased from British Rail after the locos' withdrawal in December 1993.

Five weeks after arriving at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway  in May 1994 '105 was started in Toddington Yard. Since 1994 the loco has been a regular performer and in 2000 had the Spanner MkIII boiler reinstated.

The BT4F stable grew in 2003 when both 47295 and 47376 were obtained from Freightliner although 47295 was only purchased to provide a working engine for 47376 which had suffered a catastrophic failure in June 2001.

47376 was moved from Southampton to Toddington (with a stop off at Ashchurch MOD for an engine swap with 47295) in June 2003. After a return to working order '376 was repainted in Freightliners "Two Tone Grey" livery and had the name "Freightliner 1995" rededicated in September 2005.

The grounded body of 47295 was sold to HNRC in June 2008 and sent for scrap in July 2011.

The last loco to come under the Fund umbrella was 47746 which was bought in 2007 from Crewe Diesel Depot. The loco was stored at Long Marston MOD site in Warwickshire. 47746 was sold to West Coast Railway Company in July 2011.

The Brush Type 4 Fund were also the custodians of 47701 when the loco visited the GWR in 2008.
